Coherent Nonprofit has been asked to develop a curriculum to help mission-driven people break into the nonprofit field. In surveys of our nonprofit clients, we have seen similar results to that shown in the chart above. Nonprofits are challenged to find good staff who understand the nonprofit environment.
Too often, excellent candidates simply do not understand the basics of nonprofit governance, budgeting, or sustainability--and organizations seldom have the time to train new people on the basics of the field. So repeatedly, and regretfully, nonprofit managers speak of hiring a decent-but-experienced candidate over a potentially-outstanding person with limited understanding of the nonprofit field.
To help our clients resolve this, and to improve the quality and creativity of our field, we have developed a course that can teach you the basics of nonprofit structure, governance, and law, as well as the toolkit-essentials of organizational budgeting, program development, monitoring and evaluation, multi-audience communications, and the basics of building a development funnel and cycle.
The program is delivered online, with graded assignments and one-on-one feedback. It includes mentorship and advice on specifically how to nail an interview and land the job by showing that you can think like a nonprofit leader.
